We've had a crazy busy Fall season. Here are a few of the things our family has been up to lately...
As the price of organic grain continues to rise, we look for more cost-effective ways of feeding our cows. More and more, we work towards being a self-sufficient farm. At this time, we grow all our own forage hay, but we still buy our grain. This year we planted a test crop of flax seed and barley and rented a combine to harvest it. We hope to use some for feed and plant the rest next year. FarmDad enjoyed a beautiful day on the combine and was happy to get 6 tons of flax and 22 tons of barley off the field.

My favorite apple tree decided to produce a proliferation of apples this year-- yay! We've been making applesauce and drying apples like crazy. |
